Green shading shows areas of thunderstorms and rain showers on any day between Wednesday and Friday. Red dots indicate major cities that will be affected.
Flying
Significant weather delays are likely during the afternoon hours due to slow-moving clusters of storms from all cities with a red circle, along with all smaller airports in the green area.
Outside Activities
Weddings: Rain, lightning, and strong winds in storms will be a real problem in the green area. It will be warm and humid otherwise.
Water Sports: Lightning will be a risk for all lakes/the Gulf of Mexico, and the coastal Carolinas.
Sports Practice: Heavy rain with localized storms around Houston to Atlanta and up to Dallas each afternoon, practice early or be on alert for lightning.
Concerts at Red Rocks or other outdoor venues in Colorado: Heavy late afternoon storms will lead to hail and rain turning to snow, with cold temperatures. Bring layers and a hard hat or helmet.
Driving/Trucking
No huge issues with wind, but localized storms may be severe with brief gusts of 55+ mph, large hail will be more of a threat, and tornadoes with a few storms, during the afternoon/evening. Drive early and have an idea where you can stop under and overpasses from hail, or at a gas station, or for passenger vehicles, parking garages work great to get out of hail.
Energy
Wind Power will be affected by the rain and thunderstorms in the afternoon, with chaotic surges and drops around storms. However, overnight hours will see winds 75% of max across ERCOT, southern SPP on Wednesday and Thursday, and this shifts to MISO and western PJM on Friday. The Dakotas and Nebraska will not have good wind through Friday, with coldest temperatures in the Dakotas.
Solar Power will be lower than normal in the afternoon in ERCOT, SPP, and MISO due to storms. CAISO solar will be decreasing by Friday as a storm system brings clouds and a few showers to interior desert regions. PJM solar will be strong with mainly clear skies.
Hydropower melting will continue with only some weak rain showers for CAISO Sierra reservoirs, Oregon coastal. Snowmelt continues in the Pacific Northwest, in the Columbia River Basin.
For hydropower in Manitoba, increased rainfall upriver in southwestern Manitoba could lead to increases in lake levels a little by this upcoming weekend and next week. Otherwise, all additions will be due to snowmelt.
Agriculture
Locally heavy rainfall will be the main threat for farms in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, and the Southeast and Midwest. For farms in Kansas and Colorado, large hail will be a threat to damage any early plantings. Fields will be very wet in these areas by this weekend, making planting difficult.
Every Day
Errands and activities will be affected most in the afternoon, getting home from work, picking kids up from school, and after-school activities.
